Sunshine School Fundraising Campaign - Bequia, St. Vincent & Grenadines

A dear friend of mine with whom I haven't spoken in quite some time approached me recently. We started reminiscing about the good times that have passed and I enjoyed it quite a lot. The topic of conversation shifted to the present, what are we are now doing, and the future, what are our plans for the upcoming years.

I've learned that my friend is currently working in the Caribbean region—more precisely on the beautiful island of Bequia, the second largest of 32 islands that make up St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Alongside communities and different organizations, her film company Skylarc Pictures uses visual storytelling and arts education to create positive social and environmental change around the world.

One of her current projects is to help raise funds for Bequia's Sunshine School, the only school for children with special needs in the Grenadines.

In partnership with Action Bequia and Skylarc Pictures, the Sunshine School is excited to be launching an online crowdfunder with the aim of raising US$35,000 in two months. The money will go towards the school's daily operating expenses (lunch program, teacher salaries, equipment and school supplies, etc.) as well as towards some special projects like creating a learning garden and beautifying the school building.

This fundraiser will run from April 18 - June 20, 2016. For more information, and to donate, you can click on the following link:

This beautifully executed crowdfunding campaign also includes three videos of current and past students, as well as the school’s teaching philosophy.

The Sunshine School only receives partial support from the government and they rely on the generosity of the people like you who believe in the value of offering specialised curriculum, practical life-skills like woodworking, computers and sewing, and teachers who are trained to address the special needs of the students.

I am writing this blog while enjoying a wonderful 19999 Bolivar Lonsdales cigar. I am kindly reaching out to the cigar community and asking that you take a minute to check the campaign to get to know the school’s students and the staff. If you can donate, any amount would help tremendously! As a Cigar Aficionado who smokes a couple cigars a day, I can most definitely help and so can you!

The Crowdfunder will only be online until June 20, 2016. By donating, you will also receive a number of rewards ranging from original art work made by the Sunshine students mailed to your home, to a 5 nights’ accommodation in Bequia with a tour of the school and your name on a wooden plate by the main entrance!

If you are unable to donate, I simply ask that you share the link to the campaign far and wide. I thank you all for helping support children with disabilities and special needs in St. Vincent and the Grenadines!
